How much we know our, roots ?

Appa, purchased one Gramaphone record player (HMV) in 1932, when he was working in Bombay. This has been recorded in his Diary. Anandji vora was the name of the firm, which was famous during those days... Now, that store is still there ; but they have diversified their business..Appa was born on, 11th, December, 1895, 'Manmathanama Samvatsara.' Margashira .Bahula Dashami, (Wednesday2), at Holalkere. He was highly religious, and self taught man. He learnt languages like Telugu, Marathi, Sanskrit, and studied, the books of Astrology, of several noted authors, in English, Telugu, and Kannada, languages. He had the mastery on these languages, and able to read, talk and write articles.Amma was born, at Bengaluru, on, 16th, August, 1908. Kilakanama samvatsara, Shravana bahula, panchami, (Sunday), after sunrise. 13 years difference of age. She studied in a Convent school at Bengaluru, and studied up to 3rd Standard. But she had an excellent memory, and common sense. She was very good at singing Devaranamas. Appa had brought a HMV Gramophone, record player, way back in 1931, and there were nerly, 84 records. The range of subjects were very wide. Songs, of marathi, kannada, telugu, tamil and hindi were there. Sanskrit slokas, and Mahatma Gandhi’s speech at Round table conference, London, The sound recordings of Aeroplane, Trains, were also there.December, 1912- Appa, Studied up to Lower Secondary, could not go for Metric, due to the financial conditions of the family, were not favouring him.March, 1, 1913-(18) At Davangere, took up a job in ‘Rallis,’ as a clerk, Salary was Rs.15/-p.m.February, 1917-(22) Marriage took place.July, 1, 1917-Left the company on his own accord, and joined, Davanagere Trading Co; Salary, Rs.40/p.m, His remunerations were, Rs.18/- when he left, Rallis.October, 1917, Wife died, of fever. (4 months)March, 7, 1920- when he was 25 years old, married for the second time. The name of the new bride was Subbamma, at Bengaluru, with the advice of his beloved friend. Later her name was changed to Radhamma, when she came to her husband’s home, at Holalkere. [ Ranga and Radhe were the famous pair, in mythological story] July, 15, 1920-Davanagere trading co suffered heavy losses and had to be wound up. The Directors were so much pleased with this boy; they did not loose his contact, the loan he took for his second marriage, RS. 300/- was written off. They said it is a parting gift, to their, beloved employee.
October, 11, 1920-Joined at Mesrs. Patel Volkarts, as Commission Agent, on a salary of Rs.70/-p.m. This firm was acquiring Cotton crop from the cotton field, and selling the ginned cotton bales, to the mills, in Mumbai and around the country.
July, 18, 1921-**(26) His mother, died, at Davanagere city.
March, 30, 1922- Wife attained age. She was 14 years old.
June 16, 1922- Bed Ceremony was arranged for the young married couple.
August, 2, 1923-He went to Gondavali, holy centre, where, Brahmachaitanya Swamiji was there.
April, 1, 1924-Senior partner, Mr. Patel died. Services were dispensed. Salary was Rs.100/p.m-The management offered a special commission of Rs.4/ for every Cotton bale sold.
May, 7, 1924-Birth of the first male child, at Bangalore, 6-60 p.m. he was born in the seventh month.
October, 11, 1920-Joined at Mesrs. Patel Volkarts, as Commission Agent, on a salary of Rs.70/-p.m. This firm was acquiring Cotton crop from the cotton field, and selling the ginned cotton bales, to the mills, in Mumbai and around the country.July, 18, 1921-**(26) His mother, died, at Davanagere city.March, 30, 1922- Wife attained age. He was suffering from Whooping cough and cold.December, 24, 1930-Joined Messrs. Appa, was going every year to some pilgrimage centers, like Udupi, and Ghati Subrahmanya. Similarly after coming from tour, he was bit tired. He suffered a stroke. Nagaraj, Chandranna, mother, and I were in the house. we called on our family doctor, Shankara shetty. He said about the paralysis attack, and administered some medicines, and gave injection. By evening, Appa’s entire body started becoming cold. His tongue was badly affected; not able to speak clearly. We were not able to follow, his speech, including mother. After suffering for a week, he expired in the midnight. Amma was with him. This took place in the outside room, at Holalkere. We were sleeping in the nadumane.Rangarao’s family background:Appa was a local Auditor, shanubhogue of Chiranahalli, Kudinirkatte, and kasba village. Astrologer, had some lands, and own house, lands sold, and kept the money in post office. We did not have bank for long time. Had savings from his Bombay job austerity was rigorously practiced. Very very simple life style. Amma was a great lady and adjustable to that kind of life. She never aspired for any thing. She knew her husband’s income, and the way of life.Appa’s father’s name was Venkatanaryanappa, who was also a shanubhogue, and used to Collect Taxes, in and around the villages near, Holalkere. That is why Sunkadavaru, name is attached with our family. Brishtappa, was the name of his father, and his grand father’s name was, Nilappa. The names of others, are not known. Ramannaiah was one of the senior persons, in the linage, (lived around AD, 1550) who etched, the Bhagawatha, on the Palm leaves, which was printed and published on Paper, by, HRC, and released last year, which we are all aware ! Perhaps, we might get more feed back from the ‘Vamshavruksha,’ copy published by  HRC on the net. Venkatanaryanappa, had 3 Sons, and 2 daughters..1 .H. V. Ramaswamy 2. H. V. Rangarao 3.  H. V.Janakamma 4 . H. V. Kashamma 5.  H. V.Subbarao1 .H. V. Ramaswamy :Has, Sanjivarao, Sheshagiri Rao, Rangamma, Ratnamma, Vishvanatha rao (Popularly known as Vishvanna), was a diploma holder in civil engineering. He was in Govt. Service, and retired. His sons and daughters are in very good positions.Sheshagiri rao’s son is Chandi, whom you met at Houston. Ranganth, you met in bengaluru, two daughters. Married and well settled. All are well settled with good qualifications and positions.Janakamma, popularly known as Janamma, had, one daughter, named Ratnamma. Her daughter, is LalithammaVijaya, wife of Ananthamava,’ is the daughter of Lalithamma. Janamma, lost her husband, in her youth, and joined the Ashram of Shankaralinga bhagawanShankaralinga bhagawa, belong to our family, of Sunkadavar. ( His Purvashrama name was, Rangappa) He was instrumental to advise Malladihalli Raghavendra swamiji, to settle at Malladihalli and help the poor. This is a very big story. If you want more details, you can consult me.H. V. Subba rao, my Chikkappa, had two sons, Ramachandra rao, Krishna murthy. Daughters, Subbamma, Lalithamma, Sharadamma, Nagamma,. Subba rao, was a very intelligent person, working in the Municipal Office, at Holalkere, but unfortunately, he became mentally sick, and could not get proper medical aid, and spent his entire life in isolation, sitting in a dark room of his house, in Holalkere.So the family responsibilities were carried out entirely by, my Chikkamma, Paddajji. There son, Ramachandra rao, married the daughter of ***Rangamma, and other daughter, married by his brother, Krishna murthy.
You know, Shripad is his first son, of HSR, Prasada, is his second son, who is working at Shravana belugola, as a typist,. Two daughters.Kittanna has son, Raghavendra, working in ‘kolar parike, a news paper. Three daughters are married and settled. Simple folks. Vijaya is the daughter of Nagamma. You have talked to her, at Bangalore.From our father’s side, Shankaralinga bhagawan, Janakamma, were, sages.The matts are established at Malenahalli, Kumarana halli, and Nulenur, all are near Holalkere. Janamma was looking after the matt at Kumarana hallilm until her death. Later, her son in law, Nadig, was looking after, Father of Vijaya.Our family details : (After the death of our beloved father)1961-Nagaraj got married. April, 28, 1962-HRR got married with Sow. Lalitha. Dec, 28, 1963-Sucharitha Sept, 1965-Passed BSc; in Rank. Chandranna helped him. It was almost ten years, HRR left college. He was participating in some social issues, and some what a revolutionary type. Would not tolerate, injustice. June 1966, -Jd. Central College, Bengaluru, to pursue M.Sc; Course. June 1968-MSc, First Rank. Resigned Postal services.

Sept, 1968 HRC, left for USA, to pursue, his P.hD; in Physics. July, 16, Jd. Christ college.March, 18, 1970 HRLV Hospitalized, at Bombay.February, 8, 1972-Smitha born, at Bangalore.June, 1973, Marriage of HRLV, at Chitradurga
June, 30, 1974-Harsha was born, at Bengaluru. ** (Appa’s Age is shown, in the brackets) *** This marrying among the sisters daughters, was in vogue for long time. I married the same way. Nagaraj, Ramachandra rao, Krishnamurty, our friend, Phanindra, are some of the examples.
